HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY)-- Crews in Hampton are responding to a 2-alarm fire.

According to officials, crews were called to the Magruder Run Apartments, located on Secretariat Lane, at 1:23 a.m. for the report of a residential structure fire. This is off of Neil Armstrong Parkway.

When crews arrived on scene, they found heavy smoke coming from the roof of the building. The first responding crew called for a second alarm to double the manpower to fight the fire. Crews were able to fully extinguish the fire 45 minutes later.

Officials say 12 apartments are now unlivable, impacting over 20 residents, due to water damage. They are now being assisted by the Red Cross. All residents evacuated prior to fire fighters arrival.
