Seventh-seeded Newark Tech defeated 10th-seeded West Caldwell Tech 6-4 on penalties after a double shootout in the second round of the Essex County Invitational in Newark.

Brayton Joyo scored two goals, including the tying goal in the second half that sent the match to overtime.

Christian Orellana recorded an assist for Newark Tech, while Jovani Pleitez recorded two saves.

Newark Tech (11-4) will visit second-seeded Cedar Grove in the quarterfinal round on Thursday at a time to be determined. West Caldwell Tech (10-6) will travel to Somerset Tech next Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
