The Miami Heat and the Orlando Magic open their season Wednesday at Kia Center in Orlando, Florida. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Let's analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's NBA odds around the Heat vs. Magic odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions for the best bets.
2024-25 season series: Tied 2-2
The Magic won the first 2 meetings last season, while going 2-0 against the spread (ATS). However, Miami won 89-88 at Orlando as a 1-point underdog as the Under (209) cashed on Dec. 26, while posting a 125-119 win in OT on Jan. 27, 2025, also as a 1-point 'dog. The Over was 3-1 in 4 meetings, while going 7-3 in the past 10 meetings since 2023.
Miami caught fire late, winning in the Play-In Round, before falling in a sweep against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The team brought in F Simone Fontecchio and G Normal Powell from the Clippers, while shipping off Kyle Anderson, Haywood Highsmith, Kevin Love and Duncan Robinson. C Bam Adebayo, G Tyler Herro and C Kel'el Ware make up a good, young core in South Florida.
Orlando signed F Paolo Banchero to an extension, while bringing back F Moritz Wagner. It also added G Desmond Bane from the Memphis Grizzlies to help out its perimeter shooting. It has a solid team capable of making a deep run in the East, a la the Indiana Pacers last season, but that's contingent on the team staying healthy.

Heat at Magic picks and predictions
Prediction
Magic 112, Heat 106
Moneyline
The Magic (-375) will cost you nearly 4 times your potential return, and that's way too much risk for not nearly enough return.
However, the Heat (+290) cannot be trusted despite winning the past 2 meetings. Miami has Ware carrying a questionable tag into this game, and it has a lot of jelling to do. It could take some time to build chemistry.
AVOID, and look to the spread instead.
Against the spread
The HEAT +8.5 (-115) is worth playing catching the 4 buckets. That's a lot of points in this rivalry. In fact, each of the past 7 meetings have had a line of 3 or fewer points.
Miami has won 6 of the past 9 meetings, and coach Erik Spoelstra manages to get the most out of his rosters. It might not spring the upset in Game 1, but the Heat will keep this within single digits.
Over/Under
The OVER 216.5 (-110) is the lean, but go with a half-unit play at best.
The Over cashed in 3 of 4 meetings last season. While that's last season, really, that's all we have to go off of at this point. The Over cashed in both NBA games on Tuesday, and the Over is 7-3 in the past 10 meetings in this series. Let's go high, but don't get carried away.
