WESTERLY — It was going to be a tough task.

Heading into its Division 2 preliminary-round match against Middletown, Westerly girls tennis coach Terrence McAndrew knew that he would be without No. 1 singles player Virginia Royce, who last took to the court about 10 days ago.

McAndrew mixed things up with the lineup and as things progressed throughout Tuesday afternoon at Rotary Park, Westerly, last year's D2 champions, put together a collective and complete performance.

Senior Katelyn Arnold provided the clinching point at No. 4 singles — with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Nyla Hollins for her first career singles win as No. 8 Westerly (6-10) advanced into the quarterfinals with a 4-1 victory over No. 9 Middletown (5-10).
