A young woman has unknowingly becoming a warning for motorcycle and scooter riders after breaking a little-known road rule .

In a video posted to TikTok on Tuesday, Sydneysider Anna Randford said she received an eye-watering $844 fine and three demerit points the day prior while lane filtering on her scooter.

While the NSW Government made it legal for motorcyclists and scooter riders to slip between lanes of cars in 2014, Randford had breached one of the law’s several exceptions.

She argued the huge fine was disproportionate to the offence, saying she will “happily cop $300, $400, but I don’t think I can cop $844 for doing something that doesn’t put anyone at risk”.
