Brisbane will not be spared from hot conditions sweeping the state and setting records this week, with the city set to swelter through mid-30s daytime temperatures across the next seven days.

Outback Queensland town Birdsville recorded the state’s hottest October day in 30 years, topping out at 46.1 degrees at 3pm on Tuesday, but the weather bureau’s Daniel Hayes said the eastern regions had yet to see the brunt of the heat.

“At this stage, [Thursday] is likely to be the peak of the high temperatures, and there will be some easing through Friday and Saturday, but still fairly warm,” Hays said.
