On Tuesday, President Trump hosted a luncheon in the Rose Garden for Republican Senators. Oklahoma's two senators, Markwayne Mullin and James Lankford, were among those in attendance. Given the duration of the government shutdown -- now three weeks -- and Trump's relative lack of engagement so far in the GOP's shutdown messaging strategy, there was speculation that the president might use the luncheon to assert himself more firmly, and possibly pressure leadership to reach a resolution.
