Police investigate Bridgeport, Conn. woman's death as a homicide

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Police are investigating after a Bridgeport woman found lying in the street with injuries had died, while her child was found alone on the front porch of a home.

Bridgeport police were called to Black Rock Avenue around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday for what started as a report of a child abandoned on the front porch of a home.

Arriving officers first found a child on the front porch of a house. The child was taken to an area hospital for evaluation.

Police then found a woman, who police said is the child's mother, lying in the street a short distance away. She was injured and unresponsive, police said.

The woman was taken to an area hospital, where she later died. Police identified the woman as Evelyn Rayo-Mairena, 24, of Bridgeport. Police are investigating her death as a hom
