BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) -- Bridgeport police said they are investigating the homicide of a 24-year-old woman who was found lying in the street.
Police said they found the woman, identified as Evelyn Rayo-Mairena, around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday on Black Rock Avenue, in the street, injured and unresponsive.
Authorities said they initially dispatched to the area on the report of a an abandoned child on the front porch of a house. Police said they found the child and the mother a short distance away.
She was taken to an area hospital, where she died, according to authorities.
Police did not provide specific details on the injuries.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is assisting police in the investigation.
