Police in Connecticut have opened an investigation into the death of a woman who was found dying on a Bridgeport street with her child nearby on a home's porch.
Evelyn Rayo-Mairena, 24, of Bridgeport, was found with severe wounds at a home in the 200 block of Black Rock Avenue around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 21, police said. Police responded to the house for a report of a child left unattended.
Paramedics rushed Rayo-Mairena to an area hospital, but doctors were unable to save her life, Bridgeport police said.
Responders took the child to the hospital for evaluation, but it's unclear if they were injured. Their age was not released.
Police have ruled Rayo-Mairena's death a homicide, but did not disclose what caused her injuries.
Bridgeport detectives are asking anyone with information to call lead Homicide Detective Elizabeth Santora at (203) 581-5291.
