NOAA's winter forecast predicts a warmer-than-average temperatures for much of Tennessee.
While Tennessee is still easing into fall with gradually cooling temperatures, winter is just around the corner.
Astronomical winter officially starts on Dec. 21, the winter solstice, which is the shortest day of the year in terms of daylight, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac . However, meteorological winter begins on Dec. 1, marking the start of the cold season based on calendar months.
