NEWTOWN, CT (WFSB) - A man was arrested for a crash that resulted in the death of a woman in Newtown.

Police said 19-year-old Alexis Salazar of Danbury was speeding when his vehicle, which had five people in it, went off the road and crashed into a tree.

It happened on Aug. 24, 2025 around 2:40 a.m.

Police and firefighters said they responded to an area of Berkshire Road just west of its intersection with Zoar Road.

Police said their investigation determined that Salazar was behind the wheel of a Ford Mustang GT when he sped west on Berkshire Road.

They said that as the Mustang approached the Zoar Road intersection, Salazar failed to negotiate a lefthand curve.

As a result, the vehicle left the roadway and its front end slammed into the tree.

Mary Cardero, 19, of Danbury, was killed
