Autumn is a brilliant time to travel as most destinations are significantly cheaper now that the children are back in school, but you do not need to spend money on a plane ticket to find somewhere worth visiting. Edinburgh is often hailed as a stunning city, with travel publications such as Travel + Leisure and Time Out repeatedly naming it one of the top places to visit globally .

However, having resided in Edinburgh for the majority of my life, I have noticed that the biggest mistake tourists make is visiting at the wrong time of year, as now in autumn is the optimal time to explore the city.

Most visitors flock to Edinburgh in August thanks to the festival, but by then, the city is absolutely heaving, making it challenging to see anything without being obstructed by other tourist
