LOWER MANHATTAN — DOZENS OF FEDERAL AGENTS swooped down Canal Street in Manhattan’s Chinatown Tuesday afternoon, detaining multiple people as bystanders yelled and filmed, according to Gothamist. A video on X depicted ICE agents forcefully tackling and zip-tying a diminutive Asian woman on the Canal Street sidewalk. Mayor Eric Adams said the New York Police Department had nothing to do with the raid. ICE later said agents were arresting street vendors.
Brooklyn councilmembers Crystal Hudson, Alexa Avilés and Shahana Hanif joined Comptroller Brad Lander, Public Advocate Jumaane Williams and other officials in a statement opposing the arrests.
