As the teacher’s strike enters its third week, legislation demanding that teachers return to the classroom is looking all but guaranteed with the provincial legislature back in action this week.
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith said that teachers can expect back-to-work legislation as soon as the walkout is causing “irreparable harm” to students.
The Alberta Teacher’s Association declined a request from the government to return to classrooms at the start of this week under a proposed “enhanced mediation” process. This process would end the strike (and TEBA’s lockout) and teachers would return to classrooms, with the agreement of no further strike action prior to November 20, 2025.
