The Wetaskiwin Icemen lost on the road but came home for a win this weekend.
The Icemen opened the weekend Friday with a game against the Sherwood Park Knights at Randy Rosen Arena.
Both teams were shut out in the first period, but the Knights opened the scoring with a powerplay goal late in the second. Icemen Brodie Banack came back with a powerplay goal of his own to tie the game in what would be the Icemen’s only goal of the game as the Knights added a pair of even strength goals in the third to take the win 3-1.
“We outshot them 45-30 but they had a good goaltending performance,” said Icemen head coach Marc Gagnon.
Despite being stymied by the Knights’ goaltending, Gagnon said the team played well for most of the game but struggled in the third.
