An officer-involved shooting in Niagara Falls has led to the death of a suspect who police say shot and killed a woman in Brampton and fled in a car with a one-year-old child.

Officers with Niagara Regional Police and Peel Regional Police Service had been actively searching for a suspect wanted in connection with a homicide that occurred Tuesday afternoon in Brampton.

An Amber Alert was issued Tuesday for the missing child.

Investigators had reason to believe the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Anthony Deschepper, was in the Niagara region.

A shelter-in-place order was issued for an area of Crystal Beach in Fort Erie after evidence related to the ongoing investigation was discovered.
