Manchester aldermen have begun the process of looking at -- and potentially updating -- the city’s six-decade-old homestead food operation ordinances, the review coming after city health officials told a resident to stop selling canned pickles from his home in August.

Members of the aldermanic Committee on Public Safety, Health and Traffic discussed the ordinance Tuesday with Phil Alexakos, deputy public health director for the city -- without actually mentioning the 500-pound pickle in the room, dubbed "picklegate" by observers.

Alderman Joe Kelly Levasseur requested the ordinance update after Daniel Mowery of Holt Avenue received a cease-and-desist letter from city officials dated Aug. 15 warning him of potential fines or a date in court.
