The New Orleans City Council is preparing for an emergency meeting Wednesday afternoon to address concerns that city workers may not be paid through the end of the year amid the city's financial crisis.
According to CAO Joe Threat, the city's cash-flow issues have reached a more severe level than originally anticipated. Advertisement
Threat told Budget Chair Joe Giarrusso and Council Vice President and Mayor-elect Helena Moreno that payroll may not be able to be met for the rest of the year.
Giarrusso and Moreno are calling for the administration to explain to the public and the full Council why this was just discovered and the reasons for the additional shortfall.
The meeting is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the council chambers.
