SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. —

A missing South Carolina woman was found dead this week, and authorities are treating her death as suspicious.

Jessica Christine Alexander, 42, was reported missing on Friday. Her body was discovered around 10 a.m. Monday near Pinewood Road and Cody Road, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

The cause of death has not yet been determined. An autopsy is planned, and the case is being treated as suspicious pending the results.

“We had hoped we would find Ms. Alexander alive, but it was not to be,” said Sheriff Anthony Dennis. “Our missing person investigation has come to a close, but now we must find out what happened to her.”
