An Indian national who came to the UK for a better life has been jailed for two years for supplying drugs. Navthan Katta was caught on the M5 with 18 bags of coke stuffed in his pants, Exeter Crown Court was told.

He lied about where he lived but later admitted he had been delivering Class A drugs around the country for other people. The 31-year-old says he now just wants to be deported and return to his family.

Judge David Evans said he did not know when Katta would be put on a plane and the offences were so serious that only prison was appropriate. He sentenced the defendant two years, of which 40 per cent will be served in jail.

Police stopped a car driven by Katta on the M5 on August 11. The drugs had a street value of £720 and he also had a £1,000 wodge of cash.
