LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A scam alert has been issued in neighboring Mohave County, Arizona, where someone is victimizing people who want to get a family member out of jail.

The Mohave County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) said Wednesday on social media that victims have lost from $800 to $1,700 in scams that claim to get an inmate released with an ankle monitor and curfew while promising to also provide rehab, housing and employment. The scammers then ask for a refundable deposit and a monthly ankle monitoring fee.

The Mohave County Jail in Kingman currently has more than 350 people in custody,

The scammers know about existing programs that legitimately help inmates to trick family members into giving them money. They have even used the name "Captain Don Bischoff," who recently retired and now work
