DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - A 21-year-old Proctor man charged with criminal vehicular homicide pleaded guilty Monday, following a fatal crash that happened in 2022.
According to a criminal complaint, on May 13, 2022, a serious two-vehicle crash was reported to authorities by a witness who had just come across the accident at the intersection of South Ugstad Road and Ugstad Junction in Duluth.
The witness reported that there were two vehicles involved in the crash.
When the witness checked on the vehicles, they found one man, 19-year-old Jesse James Kowalczak, trapped in a Saturn in the east ditch.
The second vehicle, a Subaru Forester, was flipped over onto the passenger’s side in the middle of Ugstad Road.
A woman, later identified as 49-year-old Leah Sarko, was found trapped
