A Freeze Warning and Frost Advisory are in effect for much of Iowa from 2:00 AM to 9:00 AM CDT Thursday as temperatures are expected to drop into the upper 20s and lower 30s overnight.

According to the National Weather Service, low temperatures between 26 and 32 degrees will bring the potential for widespread frost and freeze conditions across central, north central, northeast, northwest, south central, southwest, and west central Iowa. These cold temperatures could damage or kill crops and other sensitive vegetation . In addition, unprotected outdoor plumbing could be vulnerable to freezing.

Residents are encouraged to take precautions ahead of the cold by covering tender plants , disconnecting garden hoses , and protecting outdoor faucets .
