The man suspected of shooting and killing the mother of his child before abducting their daughter and being killed by police was facing trial in an earlier intimate partner violence case involving the same woman where he was accused of recklessly firing a handgun, the Star has learned.

Anthony Deschepper, 36 at the time, was arrested after a warrant was issued for him in the September 2023 shooting.

He was released on bail three weeks after his arrest while facing firearm related charges that included possessing an illegal handgun and intentionally discharging the gun “while being reckless as to the life or safety” of Savannah Kulla, according to court records, the same woman he would be wanted for shooting dead two years later.

A trial was scheduled for next year.
