SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Meniscus tears in the knee are a very common injury in football and other sports.

“There are many tendon injuries. Especially among athletes, or active individuals,” said SDSU Researcher Dr. Solaiman Tarafder.

In this lab on SDSU’s campus, researcher Dr. Solaiman Tarafder is leading the way on a new way to treat these injuries, which are often painful, require surgery, and have a long recovery.

“In that tissue, if there is no blood supply, that tissue does not regenerate or heal itself. So that means there needs to be some intervention to make it heal better,” said Dr. Tarafder.

Dr. Tarafder and his fellow researchers are working on a bio-glue for treatment where surgery might not be needed. The recovery time to get back on the field would be just
