PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - The atmosphere was somber around the Peoria County Courthouse Wednesday morning as opening arguments began in the trial of former Sangamon County sheriff’s deputy Sean Grayson .

Grayson could be seen wearing an all-black suit, glasses and a fresh haircut, nodding up and down, and looking back at the crowd. The family of Sonya Massey was also present.

The ex-deputy is charged with three counts of first-degree murder for allegedly shooting and killing her in her home on July 6, 2024.
