HANNIBAL (WGEM) - Winter is approaching, which means it’s time to prepare the car for winter weather.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) Area Engineer Emily Edgar said now is the best time to prepare.

To prepare the car for winter, Edgar said drivers can do it themselves if they feel confident or they can take it to a mechanic or auto shop. She said some of the things drivers should do to prepare their car include checking fluids and making them winter grade, checking tire treads and packing an emergency kit with things like blankets and flashlights.

Weather can be unpredictable, and Edgar said it can quickly become dangerous for drivers.
