HANNIBAL (WGEM) - With the first frost of the season possible Wednesday night, you may be thinking ahead to keeping your home energy-efficient this winter.

The North East Community Action Corporation (NECAC) weatherization program serves low-income families, the elderly, and handicap by saving them money on fuel bills.

On average, NECAC’s weatherization program saves homeowners 24% in fuel costs, with the average savings once weatherization is done totaling approximately $413 per year.

NECAC Spokesman Brent Engel recalled one Hannibal weatherization project that helped someone reallocate money toward other expenses.

“A few years ago, NECAC weatherized a home on North 5th Street in Hannibal,” Engel said. “It was one of those older houses from the eighteen hundreds that really needed the
