FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is asking Hoosiers to assist in reporting sightings of Mediterranean geckos.

According to the agency, the exotic lizard species has been observed at several locations across the state and is believed to have arrived by ‘hitchhiking’ on shipments.

The agency says the reptile, native to the Mediterranean region of Europe and northern Africa, is 4 to 5 inches long; tan or pink with brown blotches on its body; has warty skin, a banded tail, and large, bulging eyes with vertical pupils; and is most active at night in and around buildings.

To report sightings, you are asked to email HerpSurveys@dnr.IN.gov .
