SHREVEPORT, La. -- A Southwood High School teacher says Caddo Parish’s new “common planning” requirement is cutting into teachers’ legally protected prep time and turning collaboration into busywork.
Speaking at Tuesday night’s Caddo Parish School Board meeting, Carlos McDaniel, president of the Caddo Federation of Teachers - Division of Red River United, said the district’s daily co-planning sessions are leaving educators with less time to grade, contact parents, and manage classroom responsibilities.
“Planning isn’t all that teachers do,” McDaniel said. “Maybe the current emphasis on daily co-planning is well-intentioned, but it reminds me of the corporate mantra: this could have been an email.”
