ELKINS, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A man accused of killing an Elkins woman, whose death was initially thought to be a suicide, has dismissed his public defender and is now representing himself, court documents show.
Cade Becton is facing one count of first-degree murder in the death of 33-year-old Anastasia “Asia” Turner.
On Aug. 14, Becton waived his formal arraignment. However, in a motion for discovery filed Oct. 16, Becton stated:
"At no time did I waive my right to an arraignment, and I'm unaware of key aspects of my case. I don't believe there should be anything done on my behalf without first checking with me."
In the same filing, Becton had successfully dismissed his public defender, Blake Chancellor, writing:
