URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) -- One group at the University of Illinois serves students on campus and people nationwide, but with more than just their two hands... the group is also helping with four paws.
This October, Illini Service Dogs is celebrating its 15th anniversary. They're a non-profit group training canine companions and placing the animals with people who need them across the country.
The Director of Social Media and Engagement for Illini Service Dogs, Iris Vina, said that there's a high demand for this kind of work, and for 15 years, they've been working to fill the gap.
Each dog is placed with a primary handler, who is also a student, to be trained. Then, based on the dog's skill-set and someone's needs, the dogs are placed with a person.
