Northern Territory Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro has offered Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan a “simple” fix for her state’s crime woes – put the victims first.

“It’s pretty simple. Back in the victims and put their right to be safe above the rights of offenders,” she said.

The latest crime statistics show the Northern Territory has recorded a 7.2 per cent drop in the number of victims year-on-year since tough new laws came into effect in January.

Residential break-ins are down 36 per cent and commercial break-ins are down 25 per cent in the first eight months of 2025 compared to the same period last year.
