Authorities in Maine are investigating the death of a person found in a burning home in Benton.

The Maine Fire Marshal's Office said it responded to the fire on Pleasant Drive shortly after 2 a.m. Wednesday. Firefighters arrived to find the single-family home fully involved.

The fire was brought under control, but crews found a person dead inside. A dog was also found dead.

An autopsy will be conducted to identify the victim and determine the cause and manner of death.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
