Toronto police are warning Blue Jays fans to be wary of scams when buying tickets for the upcoming World Series games at the Rogers Centre.

“Fraudsters might pose as legitimate ticket sellers on social media, classified websites, or fake ticketing platforms, offering tickets that are counterfeit, duplicated, or simply non-existent,” officers said in a news release Wednesday .

“Once payment is made, the seller often disappears, leaving fans without tickets and out of money.”

Common scams can also include phoney electronic tickets that are invalid or already in use, police say. Swindles can occur over text or email, and may involve requests for payment through e-transfers, cryptocurrency or gift cards, which make it difficult to trace the funds.
