SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Utah officials announced today that the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will not receive funding in November due to the ongoing federal government shutdown.

However, the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program will continue through November, supported by funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Across Utah, community-run “little food pantries” are seeing more people both donating and taking food as families brace for the SNAP funding gap. In Salt Lake City, Demi Dubach runs a small pantry in her front yard stocked with shelf-stable baby food, hygiene products, pet supplies, and formula.

“We have shelf-stable baby stuff, hygiene and cleaners, pet or baby items, or baby food and formula,” Demi Dubach said.
