SALT LAKE CITY — Utah families who rely on food assistance are bracing for disruptions after the Department of Workforce Services announced that Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will not be paid in November due to the ongoing federal government shutdown.
The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program, which serves many of the same low-income families, remains operational for now. Officials said WIC offices are open and benefits continue to be available into November, supported by contingency funds from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The loss of SNAP benefits could hit especially hard in areas such as Cache Valley and other rural parts of northern Utah, where many households depend on both SNAP and WIC to meet basic nutritional needs.
