BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - As the government shutdown continues in Washington, the ripple effects are being felt far from Capitol Hill. That includes right here in Central Alabama where hundreds of families are bracing for the possibility of going hungry.
At the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama, workers are preparing to serve not only federal employees impacted by the shutdown, but also families who could lose their SNAP benefits if the impasse drags into next month.
“Honestly, the government shutdown is a crisis situation for many families,” said Nicole Williams, CEO of the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama.
