BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - A 27-year-old man is now facing murder and attempted murder charges in connection with a deadly weekend shooting near Pinson that took the life of a Cleveland High School cheerleader.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Steven Whitehead has been charged with murder in the death of 18-year-old Kimber Mills. Deputies also charged him with three counts of attempted murder after several others were injured in the shooting.

Mills died from her injuries earlier this week. Her family told WBRC they have started the painful process of planning her funeral, something they say they should never have to do.
