Samsung phone users are being warned their devices may not be able to connect to triple-0 emergency services due to a critical network issue.

Testing by Telstra identified 71 older Samsung mobile devices did not correctly connect to the Vodafone mobile network when Telstra and Optus service was unavailable.

The telecommunications giant says 11 Samsung models need to be completely replaced, while about 60 others require urgent system updates to fix the problem.

Telstra notified Samsung and other telcos when it discovered the flaw.

“For the avoidance of doubt, this isn’t an issue on our end and these devices still work perfectly fine on our network,” a Telstra spokeswoman said.
