Maharashtra is witnessing a troubling rise in crimes targeting children, with data showing that on average, a crime occurs every 23 minutes. Child rights organization Child Rights and You – commonly known as CRY- has analyzed the recently released NCRB report, Crime in India 2023, which highlights alarming trends across the state.

State sees sharp increase in child-related offences

According to the analysis, Maharashtra recorded 22,390 cases of crimes against children in 2023. This means over 61 crimes every day, more than 2.5 crimes every hour, or one every 23 minutes. The state’s rate of crime against children, adjusted for population, stands at 62.0, placing Maharashtra 10th in the country.
