LIBERTY Twp., Ohio (WKBN)- A suspect involved in a police chase through Trumbull County is now in the hospital being evaluated.

The chase started near Robbins Avenue in Weathersfield around 1 a.m.

It traveled through Niles, Girard, and Liberty, where police called it off near Belmont Avenue and Laurel Street.

When clearing the scene, police say the suspect's car reappeared and stopped in the middle of the road. Police said the suspect got out and held a knife to their own throat.

Ohio State Troopers tried to use bean bag rounds on the suspect, but say they had no effect. Eventually, the police were able to talk the suspect into dropping the knife and surrendering.

The suspect was taken to the hospital for evaluation. There is no word yet on any charges.
