CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - The Cedar Rapids Fire Department says no illnesses were reported and all residents were able to return home after “varying levels” of carbon monoxide were detected at an apartment building near Big Grove late Wednesday night.

The fire department says firefighters responded to the 200-block of West 1st Ave just before 10:15 p.m. Investigators and air monitoring found different levels of carbon monoxide on all floors of the building.

Fire crews had the building evacuated to confirm the source of the carbon monoxide, an odorless and colorless gas that can be poisonous.

Firefighters used high power fans to ventilate the building before allowing residents to return to their homes.

The fire department’s release did not identify the source of the carbon monoxide.
