Chennai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for six districts in Tamil Nadu—Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Erode, Tirupattur, Vellore, and Ranipet—forecasting heavy rainfall for tomorrow, October 24. This has sparked widespread speculation among parents and students about potential school closures, with the final decision resting on the intensity of the rains overnight and tomorrow morning.

The ongoing Northeast Monsoon continues to bring widespread rainfall across the state. The meteorological conditions are being influenced by a new low-pressure area expected to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjacent south Andaman Sea, which is predicted to move west-northwestwards and potentially intensify within the next 24 hours.
