The portals of Kedarnath Dham, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, were closed for six winter months on Thursday amid the traditional rituals. These were closed at 8.30 AM after a special puja was held. The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attended the portal-closure ceremony on the occasion of Bhai Dooj. For the next six months, Lord Kedarnath will be worshipped at His winter abode, Ukhimath. Hundreds of devotees were present when the portals of the revered shrine were closed.

According to the BKTC members, the palanquin will reach Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath on October 25.

The portals of the Kedarnath temple will reopen in April-May next year the date and time of which will be decided during the Mahashivratri festival.
