Meteorologists say that, yes, technically the weather system arriving in the Bay Area this weekend stems from an “atmospheric river.”

But don’t let the use of the term fool you — the rains will be pretty ordinary, according to weather experts who spoke to The Examiner.

They downplayed both the intensity of the oncoming precipitation set to splash into the region as early as Friday night, as well as what — if anything — it might mean for the new water year that began Oct. 1.

San Francisco is expected to receive about a quarter-inch of rain , which is generally considered between a light to moderate amount. The majority of which will fall overnight Friday and Saturday morning, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Rachel Kennedy.
