The new 29th Street bridge over Interstate-83 and the railroad tracks in Swatara Twp. is open, while the 19th Street bridge will now close for a year.

Both projects are part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s massive Interstate-83 reconstruction project.

The 29th Street bridge was closed last July for demolition and replacement. The new bridge is 292 feet long and has two, 11-foot wide travel lanes.

It has a sidewalk and shoulder on the west side, a shared-use lane for bicycles and pedestrians on the east side that is protected by a 4-foot concrete barrier.

PennDOT said the 19th Street bridge will close Sunday night, Oct. 26. The road will be closed from Paxton Street to Greenwood Street. The ramp from northbound I-83 to 19th Street also will be closed.
