A Pompton Lakes teacher accused of taping a 9-year-old’s head to a desk for nearly an hour has agreed to give up his New Jersey teaching license, according to state officials.

Todd Lewis, 58, of Wayne, agreed to surrender his teaching license in August, according to documents filed by the New Jersey State Board of Examiners, the state board that oversees teacher licenses.

Lewis was arrested in December after investigators said he placed masking tape around the back of a student’s neck to secure the child to a desk for approximately 40 to 50 minutes on Oct. 30.

Lewis declined an NJ Advance Media request to comment on his case or his teaching license.
