(WKBN) - FirstEnergy customers in northern Trumbull County are getting an upgrade.

Nearly 10,000 residential and business customers in rural Trumbull and Ashtabula counties will experience improved electric service as a major grid upgrade nears completion and new lines are energized, according to FirstEnergy.

Communities impacted include Cortland, Kinsman, Johnston, Andover and Gustavus.

Upgraded power lines are expected to be energized later this month. Part of the work included replacing aging infrastructure with stronger poles and thicker wires that can carry more electricity, many anchored in deep concrete foundations that can withstand severe weather and crashes.
